New things…

I am now part of an artists collective currently based in The Guild at Wilton. The Ground Gallery is a lovely empty brick lined shop front with built in pillars dividing up the wall space quite well for individual artists to display in.

I am 1 of 14 local creatives with techniques ranging from printing, through watercolours to oil paints, with sculpture, wool, textiles, stained glass products and pottery as well as the imaginative reinvention of old things redesigned into lamps!

It is a varied bunch and there is still space for more to join at a later time. Our only stipulation is that you need to cover a couple of days per month and that is where I am as I write this.

The weather outside is warm, but is cooler in the large open space inside, surrounded by art from local artists. If you are in Wilton at some point, we are currently open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only -although if someone is free, then we are open on the other days.

At home, I am slowly building more smaller works, they fit my headspace nicely as we move towards the end of the never finishing summer term in my day job and they fill gaps on walls perfectly when they are framed up. I had 4 pictures in the Sou Sou West gallery at the Symondsbury estate last month and 3 small jug paintings happily sold. Also, while I will get back to pictures of size soon, I appreciate the stack-ability of the smaller works.

I am moving down to 3 mornings a week when school returns in September, this is at my request so I have more time to cogitate and create. Full days to spend in the studio or out and about collecting source material to paint are going to be very welcome.

I’ll discuss a bit more about my process next time, for now, I hope you get to enjoy the hot weather we are having and I’ll write soon.
